The King Lake property is a stunning riverfront tract on the Great Pee Dee in southern Florence County. Highlighted by a 25-acre wild-water lake and towering bluffs over the river, this tract checks quite a few recreational boxes and offers great opportunity for wildlife management improvement, conservation, and more.

Once part of a classic bird hunting ag farm, King Lake is accessed through private gate off quiet, well-maintained county gravel roads that weave through hardwoods and corn fields, creating an immediate sense of separation from highway or neighborhood noise. The driveway starts on a pecan tree dotted hill, where the current owner has created a “camp” with storage containers and utilities. From there, roads fall off into hardwood drains and climb up hills dotted with pines, creating a web of travel corridors on rolling topography – including a perimeter road that hugs the river, riding its giant bluffs and lower benches for a little over half a mile.

Those same hills and drains essentially all fall to form the property’s namesake, King Lake, a cypress-tree stunner that sports a network of dams, roads, crossings, and plantable lakeside “flats.” Resident and migratory wood ducks have used this body of water for decades, and it attracts teal, gadwall, occasional mallards, and ringnecks depending on migration. Eventually the lake drains through a dam and overflow pipe into a giant hardwood and cypress bottom that eventually finds the river.

As such, the watery edge and mature hardwood corridors create excellent deer and wild turkey habitat, both for browse and roost. Several hill fields and plateau food plots connect the drains along with young pine thickets that serve nicely as bedding and sanctuary cover. The property has seen good deer numbers and big bucks harvested, and it always holds a good many turkeys. Importantly for serious outdoorsmen, the mature woods and rolling land sets up as dreamy turkey and bow hunting habitat

The eastern side of the King Lake farm is a bonus 75-acre cast and blast compound, made up of a 25-acre plant/flood impoundment grid with wells, a dove field, and a 5-acre bass pond accessible from a separate gate. With no conservation easement in place and ample sites for an idyllic home or lodge, King Lake is a must-see property.
